THE BAND
Chris
Chris has been a huge fan of U2 ever since buying his first U2 album ‘The Joshua Tree’ back in the early 90’s, listening to Bono’s ripping vocals on songs like ‘With Or Without You’.
He has been involved in the music industry since his late teens, either behind the scenes with p.a. and lighting, or being on the road with his own band. In due course he opened up his own rehearsal and recording studios in Coventry, but still never came into his element until following his heart and doing what he enjoyed the most - being part of a U2 tribute.
In 2013 he joined up with the long-time running ‘Rattle and Hum,’ a U2 tribute band based in the North, and the band took off from the word go, being quoted by some as ‘the best U2 tribute they’d ever seen!’
But over the years that passed, the long distances between band members, together with differing opinions on the band’s direction, led Chris to take the very difficult decision to go his own way and seek a fresh start.
Finally, still ever in pursuit of his dream of setting up the most authentic sounding and mind grabbing show possible, he decided to take the reins and create a band from scratch, the band that was to become ‘The U2 Experience’…. and, with the help of his new fellow band mates, deliver the most mind-blowing show for their audiences near and far.
Jon
It was “all because of U2” that Jonny P took up the drums. At the age of fifteen he heard his first U2 song and decided that he wanted to play drums, and play them like Larry Mullen Jnr! By the age of eighteen he was playing in a rock standards covers band, and thereafter in an outfit playing original material. However, the Larry influence never left him, especially as U2 had become his favourite band of all time.
A long break from drumming came to an end during lockdown when, with time on his hands, Jonny P reached for the sticks once more and dusted off the kit. Eventually he spotted an advert for “Larry Mullen wanted” and was there like a shot. With U2 running through his veins and out into his sticks, Jonny P gives The U2 Experience its precise and thunderous heartbeat.
Clive
‘ADAM CLAYTON’
Clive took up the bass in his early teens – he wanted to be in his older brother’s band but they already had two guitarists! Over the years he has performed in bands of many genres, playing both covers and original material, much of which he has written. His musical highs include opening for veteran rockers The Heavy Metal Kids, and fellow Brummies UB40.
Clive’s introduction to U2 came way back in May 1980 when he saw them perform at a club in his home city of Birmingham, where they were actually opening for his mate’s band. Impossible to believe now, but due to a bus strike that day U2 played to barely a dozen people, and at one point Bono joined Clive and the rest of the small audience to sing to the rest of the band back on the stage. Blown away by what he saw and heard, Clive left the venue that night with a sneaking suspicion that these four lads might go places …….
Fast forward to 2021, and when the role of Adam Clayton in The U2 Experience cropped up, Clive stepped forward and was immediately impressed by the whole set-up, the attention to detail, the accuracy of the sound, and the standard of musicianship. Clive’s passion is for playing live, and he now looks forward to “being Adam” in front of audiences across the UK and beyond.
(Clive uses Fender, Gibson and custom basses, and Adam Clayton Signature Fender amplification.)
